Download SkypeKiller®, the freeware that eradicates Skype® remotely; Your Whole Network Skype Ridden for free.

Skype killer logoI have always loved the advertising for the www.skypekiller.com (very audacious) and the the fact that it popped up on google adsense, now that was a killer trick to get visibility. Remember, Skype is still not present big time on that channel… I like their slogan too «Your Whole Network Skype Ridden for free». And then thinking that Skype thought they would get a free ride an everybody’s network. Besides all that, the software really works too. Yet another great tool for system administrators. It’s a pitty that Skype did not mention it in their manual for Network administrators . I would recommend this tool in every network and get it up and running ASAP. It does not really mean you got to «kill skype» but it will surely give you an idea of how many skypers are present in your network.

VoIP enable your website in a simple way but think about the people and systems behind it.

This seems to allow anyone to voip enable their website (www.cognation.net/contact) which means if someone visits your site and wants to talk to you, all they need is a headset, a browser and an internet connection.

At the of the website-owner the server connects directly to your PABX or call center. No computer is required.. www.Cognation.net/Mexuar has a pretty easy flash demo that outlines what is involved. Good video here on this blog of their products/service. You can also test it on their own web-page. Click to call.

I tried to call but no luck, which shows exactly where the weakness of this type of product might : overloaded lines. Of course, you are connecting the web to a phone-line.. It’s all about capacity (what is humanly and technologically possible). Message like «I am too busy to handle your request» or situations whereby phones are only answered after 10 rings are not situtations that will boost the confidence of consumers…

Too busy to takes to long to respond

It’s exaclty in these type of situations that I question the guerilla marketing and viral marketing concepts. Where is the quality in it ? I remember I had a meeting with a vendor today, and I told them to call me, but they never showed up. Dropping a phonecall to say they will be late also does not belong anymore the range of behaviour to expect…

So of course you might be able to make something work with all kinds of technologies but you will still need proper back-offices behind it.

Honestly I would not want to be the helpdesk-agent sitting behind a web-enabled phone. Which explains why skype as a company never really provided any phone support for their product .

Skype enabled presence-based search-engine will probably lead to more spam and something about Skype Official Yellow Pages and the funny email notification.

AnonymousWell interesting this one. A presence-based search engine called www.messagr.com. Try it, it’s really simple and fast. I am not sure I want to be contacted by more people than is already the case today. I also doubt if I want to walking around with a phone that is linked to such a p2p / Skype enabled search engine. Also there are quite some Skype Director around already, www.konush.net, www.jyve.com, www.skype-directory.com. I wish they would do some publication on how they are doing, but all these initiatives are so, well, young. Very rarely they do some email-marketing too. I have never had somebody contacting stating «if found via those portals». I think it just does not work like that. As usual I have big question marks on these kinds of engines. For example www.jyvepro.com that allows people to call you (but they must pay). Nobody ever called (at least not to me  ) to call me. Anyways, maybe there are some scenario’s whereby this can be used.

And why is there no official Skype Directory ? WhitePages and YellowPages for Skype. There is a feature in Skype that allows my status to be seen by on the web. I would not mind to have a tag there «allow to be seen in the Skype Official Yellow / White (yet un-existing). This has to be also a system with higher authentication, otherwise it’s kind of useless. I noticed that Skype has added an email authentication to their system. Basically you have to fill in an email - address upon creation of a new account, but it’s kind of pointless since that email-address does not get a message for activation of the account, so virtually anybody can create any account and fill any type of data, without the owner of the data being notified. Kind of stupid, right ? I don’t call that authentication. It is an attempt to improve things, but badly executed and not well thought over. Sorry to say so. I have on this topic quite some times. Just search for the related topic Skype dual login on google.

I would take a closer look at www.linkedin.com and www.plaxo.com (for example) now those are professional systems. They really work.

I also think that if you skype ID is being filled in somewhere (even withing the skype – system itself) that you should get a an email and skype notification that somebody (normally only you could do that) your cellphone or other phonenumber or SKype ID (anything that belongs to your identitiy) on a system attached to Skype.

Of course we know that if you add real security to certain systems, that it will slowdown it’s growth…

I hope they have thought about this notification that your ID is being filled in within other Skype ID for the new Skype Business version, otherwise it is going to be hard to sell to certain businesses.

SkBigBrother600_thumb

I have been at it in my weblog in the chapters networking/security and Skype for Business. It’s a wonderful system but it lacks real authentication and security. I hope this will be worked on the Skype for Business version. In mean time we are working on a plugin called SK Big Brother . I believe companies will want to have INTERNAL control over their communications and that is their right and duty. As long as they do in a certain legal way.

Google and skype alliance announced. Here comes Skyagoogle or Gype or Goope :). Anyways : interoperability between Skype and Google Talk.

!!!

Google and Ebay announced a ground-breaking partnership on Monday that links the fortunes of the online giants at a time when their strategies had threatened to put them increasingly on a collision course.

The alliance, which echoes a deal reached in May between Yahoo! and Ebay, will further isolate Microsoft at a time when the software developer has sought partnerships of its own to accelerate its internet initiatives.

The formal press release says: «Starting in the near future, Skype will offer its users the option to download the Google Toolbar, to which Skype will add a custom button. The companies will also explore interoperability between Skype and Google Talk via open standards to enable text chat and online presence.»

Skype Toolbar for Internet Explorer/Firefox. From Click to Call via Click to Market to click to Buy or we should say click to eBay. And Google got Skyped.

The Skype Toolbar for Internet Explorer has been updated. It has been updated. And it shows more on the relationship/strategy between Skype and the Search-engines. (Who ise calling who and where doe the traffic information on click-to-call going to ? Anyways. Here is the Changelog of this great toolbar.  The Skype Web Toolbar recognises phone numbers and Skype Names on webpages, so that you can call with one click, through Skype.  The local search partners will help you find the person or business you’re looking for. See the search-engines they are linked to. It is all going into the direction of Local content via a Global tool. Skype / Ebay has and continues to create the horizontal platform (talk, show, buy and sell) and the specialized markets will dig in vertically. Soon we might a Procter and Gamble Skype version. If they can make one for www.tom.com (a skype that goes via a special gateway on Chinese territory), they can make one for any other big organization too. Probably advertising will be built into Skype. I believe that this is unstoppable. Look at MSN and Yahoo Messenger, full of advertising too. I guess what we see now with Skype, is just proper execution of a business-strategy defined before and after the Skype buy-out. And now Ebay is taking very steadily key-management positions within Skype. It’s not Skype anymore. It’s Skypebay. At least the Ebay money-pot has kept them alive.

Note this little line they added :  You can also search eBay listings or find things on the web.

www.callinsearch.com of www.skypeteer.com add-on does a simular thing (only more cute I find). BUT: Is this going to be one of those add-on-software that will become obsolete, like Festoon (video), Connectotel SMS, all kind of voice-recorders will be integrated in Skype. So where does that leave Skylook, Pamela, Kish-Kish, Powergramo. Lot’s of functionailty will be integrated in their core system. Could very well be that Skype / Ebay buys them out to avoid redoing the development time and lot’s of dissapointment and maybe small legal hustle…  Maybe it’s about time that the external Skype developer unite in some kind of associaton in order to defend their rights and get insight in Skype’s plans. I find it kind of idiotic to make plugins that will be part of the Skype core in few months from now… Besides that, back to the Search-Engine link between Skype Browser plugin and Search Engines. See my simple interpretation on the instructions of this plugin. From Click to Call via Click to Market to click to Buy or we should say click to eBay.

And now look at Google Zeitgeist : http://www.google.com/press/zeitgeist.html. Ow ! their contactnumber just got Skyped by the Skype firefox plugin… Hahahaha. Net neutrality…  Yeah sure… Add to whole that the emerging Skype-directories. Here start the battles the call-traffic. Lot’s of privacy and security issues here. See www.konush.net, www.summitcircle.com, www.jyve.com, www.skypedirectory.com and some other ways that have emerged to collect the ever growing p2p Skype-cloud information. It’s gonna be interesting… Disruptive technology converging with search-engines. It’s all in the business plan of Ebay and it is being carefully executed. Google Just got Skyped.

I got quoted on news.com. Does that mean anything ?

With this saying they quoted me here. Not that this is of any real importance, neither do I find many of the things I say or think are amizingly relevant, but it’s kind of funny anyways, that people pick it up from here and quote it somewhere else. Shows you the power of the blog, whatever the purpose of direction it might have. Remember this whole blog is just an «experiment that got out of hand». It used to to be about funny fruit and things in Malaysia and now it’s all about Skype and Hype.  So that is how I became one of the «friends of Skype» (scroll down to see the major skype geek bloggers…). Let’s call that the power of perception. I never choose to be a friend of Skype, it just happened. I am getting used to it.

Simply amazing the nonsense they write about me. But it's all true. :)

Jan2It also shows the power of blogging, at least towards creating visibibily on search engines. Just did a search in google on jan geirnaert and malaysia and jan geirnaert and nsa. « AP Top News: 'Jan in Malaysia', has closed his HQ Base in KL and split in into three sections. Reports are that he has relocated to Sri Lanka to work on web 3.0 VOIP programs with Sir Arthur C. Clarke. Jan's Top Secret Research Lab in KL has been split in two and re-located to Diego Garcia http://tinyurl.com/f2gut and the Antarctic McMurdo Research Station

Hayden http://tinyurl.com/f7xgm said' Thank goodness we have Jan now as part of our team. We can now fully deploy our new Web 3.0 decryption/encryption software and hardware systems that Jan and Arthur have been working on for so long. Rebecca Jeschke Media Coordinator for the EFF http://www.eff.org/news/ said, "It is our great regret that would could not raise enough funds to hire Jan & Arthur. Jan has gone over to the other side and our communications are no longer secure from being tapped by the NSA.""We are still not sure who Jan is", said Meg Whitman. "We spent 4 billion on Skype, now we have been out bid by the NSA's deep pockets. This is a sad day for SkypeBay!"» source.

The google cookies expire in 2038. We still got some time...

Jan2A sharp and bright mind threw me this just now… Read this www.lowter.com/articles/34 and this www.lowter.com/articles/171. and this one http://www.lowter.com/articles/234 What goes for google.com goes for any other «little» thing going on the public internet. Think for example about potential abuse by roaming the Skype p2p-cloud. See already an example of a p2p «roamer» www.skype-sender.info. This will roam the skype-cloud by tapping on the public available supernode data and can send spam/spit to found userlist. There are worst scenario’s too, which should be found in the territory of phishing, hacking, eavesdropping, datatheft and related. Something needs to be done about this, if you intend to use Skype in a business environment.

Or just  «Check out this site: search of eiqz2q.org — depending which datacentre you hit, you will see between 3.8 and 5.5 BILLION RESULTS. Even worse… the domain is EIGHTEEN DAYS OLD. That’s right, in under 3 weeks, one person has managed to get one domain 5 billion pages indexed in Google.  Another domain owned by the same person, t1ps2see.com, has between 1.7 and 2.4 billion indexed pages and an Alexa ranking of under 2,000…» (source).

Google not free in China.

me and my malaysian chinese wife.Reading this I should consider myself lucky being a Belgian in Malaysia – S.E. Asia  (with the www.msc.com.my and the www.mdc.com.my and all that) and not in China…

“Addressing reporters in Washington yesterday, Google co-founder Sergey Brin admitted that the company has compromised its principles by acceding to Chinese censorship demands and hinted that Google could adjust its stance in the country in the future. "We felt that perhaps we could compromise our principles but provide ultimately more information for the Chinese and be a more effective service and perhaps make more of a difference," Brin said. "Perhaps now the principled approach makes more sense. It's perfectly reasonable to do something different, to say, 'Look, we're going to stand by the principle against censorship and we won't actually operate there.' That's an alternate path. It's not where we chose to go right now, but I can sort of see how people came to different conclusions about doing the right thing." … "We believe that the decision that we made to follow the law in China was absolutely the right one," Schmidt said at the time. "From our perspective, we must comply with the local law, and indeed, we have all made commitments to the government that we will absolutely follow Chinese law." It seems Google's attitude towards doing business in China is changing. Or perhaps it's managed to peer over its arrogance long enough to realize that offering a censored version of its search services in China isn't going to inspire a sea change in Beijing's attitudes towards censorship and the Internet.

Dalai Lama not found... At least not everything.

Why would the definition of a phenomenon (basically anything), based on the information on the web, be something different for different countries ? It will only drive certain topics into more taboo zones, where distortion of reality is even bigger. For example :

Dalai Lama on Google.com.
Dalia Lama on Google.cn.

«Information at your fingertips» but through the filters of firewalls provided by the same entities that provide the search - facilities. If you can only search and find what others allow you to find, what does searching means anyways. It’s back to the issue of «I think you are stupid and not ready, I will decide for you what you can see and yes, you could be thinking you have access to all information, but you don’t and you will find out in 10 years from now. How you feel then, well, we’ll say it’s the choice of your government. After all you choose your government. In mean time we’ll sell you the technology as is.»

Google Grabbed 46 Percent Of Search

«At the top would be Google, which snared 46.3 percent of search queries in November 2005. Almost 2.4 billion searches wound their way through the Google server farms. Yahoo held its place at second on this list, with a 23.4 percent share and 1.194 billion queries received, parsed, and tossed back to the user.  That takes care of the billionaires of search share. MSN Search at number three picked up 11.4 percent of the November '05 search market, 583 million queries. AOL Search was tops in single digit share, 6.9 percent and 350 million searches handled. MyWay and Ask Jeeves trailed the big four, at fifth and sixth place. Ask Jeeves owns MyWay and powers its search, so maybe the 2.5 percent and 2.3 percent of search share should be combined for the two. Nielsen//NetRatings then listed EarthLink (which gets its results from Google), Dogpile (a metasearch site), Netscape (Google search results here too), and iWon (Ask Jeeves here) as the last four on the list.» source : www.WebProNews.com

Nuts and bolts for Skype/VoIP : geo-advertising.

Nuts and bolts for skypeI remember the late success of the 1 million dollar pixel advertising page. There is soo much out there on the net but it is very difficult to forge local relations based on global content. Nobody really trust sales on a distance, it is all to volatile. There is too much anonynous entities. So maybe if ones makes a page that shows you only what is around you, might break the ice (just like www.earth.google.com)  Like this : you see an advertising page on for example the voip-hardware devices being resold in your region (city, country…). You read about it and then you will want to see it, get the price and buy it. But If it cannot be shipped to your country no point to even take a look. You will learn sth. yes, but the advertising won’t work since no potential sales comes out of it. It must be more simple for web-visitors to receive the local content (google understands that). So maybe a pixel ad page with country/city based content deserves a chance. The one I am talking about would callto://enabled. Meaning if you click on it, the phone of the local advertiser it’s reseller/agent network will ring or the chatbox will receive a request. See basic flowchart below.

Organizacije koje posjeduju lokanu informaticku mrežu (LAN) spojenu na Internet mogu primjenom Skype telefona i Skypa izraditi potpuno besplatnu internu telefonsku mrežu. Zanimljiva iskustva u uvodenju Skypea u poduzece opisuje Jan Geirnaert u casopisu Skype Journal u clanku: "Implementation of Skype in Companies".

Search in, on and with Skype.

Internet telephony firm Skype has signed a UK partner deal with Thomson Directories to boost its toolbar with new local search features. Skype’s web toolbar will now let users search for any business using the optimised Thomson Local search engine.

The results of the search will display three sponsored listings at the top of the page and a list of businesses down the left hand side which are then geographically displayed on a map.   These business listings have been optimised for one-click calling, which means that any phone numbers shown on the results page can be called using Skype, by clicking on the Skype button.

James Bilefield, vice president of business development at Skype, said: “Thomson Directories are widely acknowledged as the market leader in local search, so it made perfect sense for Skype to work with them.” In addition to being able to place SkypeOut calls directly from the Thomson search result pages, the toolbars also let users call any phone number on any web page.

Webstatistics for webtown.com.my

Some stats as generated with www.weblogexpert.com, which still gives me the data I need (not being in advertising and all that, I keep my weblog clean of that)

Time range: 10/31/2005 03:30:39 - 11/30/2005 16:40:53 (1 month of traffic gives me Total Hits: 56,662 and Total Visitors : 4,795).

I have told it many times, as I was told before also many times. Create proper focussed content (TODAY) to get traffic on your website. The traffic is a side-effect of the interest that visitors have in your weblog, or website. It is certainly not the other way.

What also helped is blocking the domain for while to see what effect it would have on the traffic. Adding a password-structure temporarily had for effect that people started to ask to have access. I am also convinced that the file - location http://zog.typepad.com/malaysia has even more clicks and visitors. Well I could not care less, really. It does not make a difference for my wallet anyways. And nothing works on the matter of convertising clicks into money anyways. All the visitors want stuff for free. So be it.

Quality content is the key to lots of traffic

I have now about 5000 visitors per week on my websites. I have not pushed myself into any search-engine. Really not. I have not used software that creates fake listings, fake links, neither have I listed myself (http://www.webtown.com.my and related domains and http://zog.typepad.com/malaysia). I just have a web-friend in Belgium (King Zog) who told me about 2 years ago to start a weblog with typepad. I also don’t really care much about the traffic. I guess if somebody needs to contact, well go ahead. If you think this is interesting, just list it, or don’t. I don’t care. I do care about newspapers or magazines or any other medium printing my images without my permission. Especially when they gain a profit of it. The lawyers are not far away (only one email) in that case…

And hereby I list this interesting article on how to generate more traffic. It’s true, it’s all about the content. You can scream as much as you want, but if a url is empty, or simply stupid, well you will harvest no results. You will get what you deserve : nothing but simular bullshit.

Source : Entireweb Newsletter [newsletter@entireweb.com]

Why lots of quality content is the key to lots of traffic.

Content - All webmasters want lots of it and need lots of it to get a lot of traffic to their websites. In order to boost traffic, many webmasters try work on their meta tags or even resort to tricks in an effort to get more visitors to their site.

But one of the simplest, most effective, and most dependable ways to increase the amount of traffic to your website is to offer more quality content. I'm sure you have heard it said that on the Internet, content is king. Well, it's true!

For your website to be successful, you need to understand exactly how more content brings more visitors to your site as well as how to generate quality content that is related to your particular website theme.

Why do you need more content to bring in lots of traffic?

Many websites are really just company brochures that have been placed on the web. The site simply describes the company, with some contact information thrown in.

These types of websites usually have anywhere from five to ten separate html files. If these pages have a moderate amount of text on them, it's possible to optimize them for a few keywords and a few web surfers may find the site via the search engines.

But if these sites are in fairly competitive fields, it may be very difficult to build enough traffic because the search engines try to rank the most important websites that match a search query. Search engine robots search for keywords or phrases in the pages' text to try to determine what the site is all about.

But the search engines also consider the links on the web pages. For example, if your homepage is about bicycles and you have links to other pages on your site relating to the same theme, such as mountain bikes, racing bikes, etc, then the search engine will conclude that the site is about bicycles.

So if your site has a lot of pages about bicycles, your site will be better represented in the search engines for the search term bicycles than one that is simply a bicycle company brochure site with a handful of pages.

Also, each page stands alone as a "mini website" and may come up in searches, allowing people to enter your site through the "side" or "back doors" and not the homepage. The more pages your site has, the more chances it has of being found in searches, and the more you can optimize your site for different search terms.

In a nutshell, more pages mean more "roads" from the search engines to your sites. And traffic needs roads to travel on.

So then, by adding lots of quality content pages to your site, you boost the chances of one of your pages coming up in searches and you will increase your site's overall traffic.

Another thing to consider: the more quality content your site has, the more respect it gets from human-edited directories such as the Open Directory Project as well as from other webmasters.

If you have lots of quality content, then you'll get lots of link requests, requests for permission to publish your articles in newsletters, and more links to content pages on your website. All of these factors result in more website traffic for you.

How do you get lots of quality content for your site?

Depending on the type of products or services you offer, there are many ways to build quality content for your site. Here are a few examples:

1. Product Reviews - If you are selling other companys' products as an affiliate, rather than just linking to the product, you can write a full-page review of it. Explain how the product has helped you and what its strengths are.

This type of content pre-sells the product, as well as providing interesting reading in itself. If you sell your own products, you can give background information on them or solicit satisfied customers or users to write reviews, or testimonials.

2. Background information - Every product exists in some context. For example, you may have a hotel in a particular city. Instead of only providing information about the hotel, you could offer some content pages about the history of the city where the hotel is located as well as any popular tourist attractions near there. The possibilities for adding this type of content are unlimited!

3. Questions and answers - Let your website's visitors help you create content. Place a questions and answers feature on your website or in your newsletter. Not only will you get insight into what is on your visitor's minds, but by answering these questions you can generate lots of useful content for your website and newsletters.

4. Forums - Your site's visitors can also directly write the content on your site through a forum. Some forums are searchable by search engine robots, while others aren't. If you have quality content on your forum, you can also cut-and-paste it onto the main pages of your website to ensure inclusion in the large search engines.

5. Guest articles by others - There's no real need to spend a lot of time writing your own articles if that isn't something that you enjoy doing (or of you aren't very good at it). You can publish the articles that other people write!

There's a lot of top-quality free content that is available on the internet. While you're usually required to provide a link back to the author's website (or give his/her email address), this is a small price to pay when you consider the fact that many of these well-written articles pull in tons of traffic.

Finally, if you're wondering how best to arrange all of your site's new content, you have two effective options. Some people may simply build a second content-rich website to draw lots of traffic and then direct the visitors to their main "sales site" via links.

My preferred method is to place an articles section on your existing site, or simply link your new content pages to the particular product and service pages that are most appropriate.

However you decide to present your content, you can expect to see a greatly increased traffic flow to your site as a direct result of the quality content that you have added.

Google Building An Alternative Internet. Google attacks China / Asia... Why google is looking at VoIP...

Google is working on its most ambitious project to date, the creation of a global data transfer network that could effectively serve as a private Internet. Since the introduction of AdWords three years ago, Google has become the world's largest media company and advertising vehicle. It has grown to rival Microsoft in scope and scale. The process has made it a fully globalized corporation.

Google has an estimated $7billion in the bank and employs many of the brightest brains in IT. It also has a reputation for being one of the best tech firms in the world to work for and has been known to use that reputation to headhunt intellect from its rivals. It is focused on the burgeoning Chinese market and appears to be performing better there than its chief rival Microsoft is. Google has the obvious capital and intellectual resources to do just about anything it wants to.

There are a number of reasons backing speculation that Google is building its own global digital communications network. Google has formally entered the telecom business with the release of a VOIP client known as Google Talk. VOIP is an acronym for Voice Over IP, which is a synonym for Internet telephone. In order to provide this service Google has had to acquire technical and physical resources that, along with other assets held by the company, point to the construction of an alternative Internet.

As Microsoft has so ably demonstrated over the past twenty-five years, there are a number of profitable ventures found in a space monopolized by a single mega-corporation. If that is the path Google is taking, building the infrastructure to capitalize on it would be considered the crucial but difficult first step. Over the past ten months, Google has been purchasing a large quantity of redundant fiber-optic lines, (commonly referred to as dark-fiber), in cities around the world. This fiber was laid during the boom years of the late 1990's but left surplus after the dot-com crash in 2000. Speculation about Google building an alternative Internet has been circulating since early January 2005 when Google started buying and accumulating lots of dark-fiber.

Telecommunications industry news-source Light Reading today reported on some of Google's recent real estate acquisitions. Google is leasing large amounts of floor space in or near major telecom interconnection facilities such as the recent leasing of about 1/10th of the rentable space at 111 8th Ave in New York, one the world's largest telecommunications interconnection hubs. It is also said to be in negotiations for large amounts of space at enormous co-location centers (known as carrier hotels) on the west coast, with the goal of linking Google's North American and Asian networks.

In early 2005, Google began issuing RFP notices to relevant tech firms for the development of a DWDM fiber optics network. The RFP process ended earlier this month and Google is currently reviewing bids from multiple tech vendors. Google is said to be planning to first establish a network in North America and then connect it with similar networks established in Europe and Asia. The construction of such a network could give Google the ability to deliver multiple branded media such as music, video, online telephone and other Internet services to every home in the United States.

DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) is a technology that exponentially increases the carrying capacity of fiber optic cables. According to an article in yesterday's IPMedia Monitor (sub req.), only a handful of the largest telecommunications providers operate commercial DWDM networks. A small number of private DWDM networks exist but few are large enough to need such capacity.

Google's need for bandwidth capacity is increasing rapidly. It currently pays the traditional telecom firms like AT&T who own the long-haul fiber lines a premium for bandwidth. Building its own data transfer network could be seen as a cost savings solution, especially as it could cost as little as $100millïon (in new spending) to construct one. Google already owns fiber throughout North America and around the world. It just needs to connect it all together.

Once connected, what could Google possibly do with a homebrewed state-of-the-art fiber-optics system? It could develop the kind of exclusive branded environment AOL originally dreamed of. It could capitalize on its recent innovations to provide life-service technologies such as Google Talk (VOIP) and interactive information resources such as local search alerts and the delivery of news, video and music files.

According to the IPMedia Monitor article, "... those who have reviewed the RFP say that Google's plans extend far beyond cost-saving motivation, with an architecture that puts a Google-controlled hub deep within all major metro areas."

Google's stated goal is to organize the world's information. A big part of that goal is to turn a profït while doing so. Google turns a very tidy profït each quarter but has long been seen as too reliant on one kind of income, paid search advertising. Google draws between 90 – 95% of its revenues from paid ads. The development of a Google operated data transfer network would give Google any number of ways to expand the number of productive revenue streams from 1 to 1+ more.

Then again, Google has always prided itself on its ability to organize the world's information and provide it frëe of charge to its users. The cost of Google's services is borne by the advertisers. Google might simply be exponentially increasing its online real estate inventory by enticing hundreds of millïons of new registered users to take a look at whatever it is they are creating. Assuming it is the coolest thing on the block when released and is faster and cheaper than its competitors (as most of Google's new products tend to be), many of those new users will choose to stick around to use the services offered by a Google branded network.

Google appears to be preparing to become the world's greatest data delivery vehicle. Perhaps this phase of Internet history will be summarized with the neo-business aphorism, "If you can't beat them and you can't join them, you can just make your own reality and make lots of monëy over there." Google has $7big in the bank, much of it being investor monëy. From all accounts, it is preparing to light up and connect millïons of miles of dark fiber, starting in North America possibly as early as the first quarter of 2006. Today we wire America. Tomorrow we wire the world. On Saturday, we'll do brunch.

Google, Google-talk. Scary business?

A marketing brain just told me : “ The scary part of GMail is a combination of two things: Firstly Google is now public so they will have some shareholders on the top of the list of people to satisfy. Secondly: The reason why you get a whopping 2GB of storage for free is that Google will mine your data there to serve "improved customer experience" -  your own data content related ads! ”

Read more here :

“Concern about Google's data retention practices has become more acute since the company went public last August. The company's motto of doing no evil remains, but some people question Google's ability to adequately balance the heavy burden of safeguarding consumer privacy rights with the pull toward intermingling and mining data for ever more lucrative targeted advertising. Source : http://news.com.com/Google+balances+privacy%2C+reach+-+page+2/2100-1032_3-5787483-2.html?tag=st.next “

My rule in life is still :

  • I just take what I need
  • if I need something I will get it and leave something for the others.
  • I don't need other “smart people” to tell me what I need.
  • I don’t need others to do for me what I can do myself.
  • Neither need I investigators to investigate what it is that I might need.
  • If I need something I will investigate myself.

AND I certainly don’t need cold callers (or any other form of VoIP, or Instant Messenging spamming) using skype calling me for whatever the are selling. If I need something I will call you. For free or cheaper. That is the only that has changed. All the rest is Global Bullshit.

Google Earth ate www.keyhole.com

It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s actually none of my business, but here is my comment anyways. I just noticed that the http://google.earth.com logo changed. It use to look different. At least on my older versions of Keyhole.  They keyhole earth has moved to the second place. The start-up logo totally change and is has now been totally googled. It’s some kind of a new expression also : “ you have been googled”. Not sure what it means though. Could mean anything, depending from your perspective.

I guess the green blob at the background could have been skype, but not anymore since they have their own www.google.com/talk VoIP-solution.

What do these four cubes actually represent? It’s part of the google logo I know.

Interesting, but what does it really mean ? I am sure you talk this stuff (the way you want, really) into the mind of marketing-people, but I still have not figured out how to make money with something which is initially for free and it saves you a great deal of money (so it is actually a wonderful invention) and then you start asking money for it. Not sure if that will work. It’s like giving candy to a kid for free and after 24 months of candy (skype is 2 years old now) you let the kid come again and ask 1 euro for 1 bag candy… If I was that kid I would surely remember the adult who pulled that trick on me, and put some salt in that adult it’s coffee later… instead of sugar.

Believing that VoIP via Instant messenging will be billable on the transaction (if you give it first for free, and then start billing) is as stupid I guess as trying to put a stamps on every 10 emails being sent. Does not matter whether is a public or private stamp…

The bullshit of search-engine promotion software versus blogging. Example : Skype in Kuala Lumpur.

I have been busy on this visibility-issue quite a while now. I never really even tried to “get on top” of search-engines (referring to google’s skype in Malaysia, or VoIP in Malaysia). I did not engage in Point Per Click Campaigns, I did not do Addsense by google, I did not use Web CEO, Search Engine Commando, Submitwolf, Arelis, IBP, Clicktracks. None of that. Oh yeah I still have 150,00 usd stuck somewhere in an endless cycle of Paypal communications….

I just wrote down my thoughts. Many, many times, repeatedly and it was fun, some people even read it.

I believe if you have something interesting to tell or to show, well the clicks and hit will come automatically. I am not saying there that pushing a url into the search-engine might not have unexpected event, but I don’t believe in hype.  There is still many people around promoting “get rich quick schemes”. What is worse is that they believe their own bullshit, or even more worse : they are just processing other people bullshit. That is a very bad situation because in the end, we might all be processing bullshit and talking about “making lot’s of money”, but when sitting at the dinner table with the get-rich-quick people, everybody might just look in another direction when asked to pay the bill (with real money, not with clicks or promises or great income….).

On the matter of search-engines, let’ s do a test. When you go NOW (Sunday 21 august 10 am, Kuala Lumpur) on google and search for  string "Skype in Kuala Lumpur" (use the brackets), google will tell you that this search did not match any documents.

I wonder if by writing 10 or more times Skype in Kuala Lumpur something would happen to the visibility of this weblog…. Skype in Kuala Lumpur.Skype in Kuala Lumpur.Skype in Kuala Lumpur. Skype in Kuala Lumpur. Skype in Kuala Lumpur. Skype in Kuala Lumpur. Skype in Kuala Lumpur. Skype in Kuala Lumpur. Skype in Kuala Lumpur. Skype in Kuala Lumpur. Skype in Kuala Lumpur. Skype in Kuala Lumpur. Skype in Kuala Lumpur. Skype in Kuala Lumpur. Skype in Kuala Lumpur. Skype in Kuala Lumpur. Skype in Kuala Lumpur. Skype in Kuala Lumpur. In a few days after this search again on “Skype in Kuala Lumpur”. Then imagine that you are somebody looking for skype in Kuala Lumpur.

I also have not set a robot.txt file to “regulate the traffic”.

Summary : one might have 1000 clicks, 10.000 hits, but it gives you no guarantee to make money with it. Why, because it is not the purpose. I prefer to see relevant website, with interesting content, when I have done a search in google. I don’t want to arrive on website that are just trying to tell me (and the people behind them) to biggest bullshit on earth.

Same goes for skype by the way. We should all start to broadcast the marketing-bullshit and advertising attempts of all kind of morons that are using skype to sell, advertise their products… I hope there will never be an advertisement on empty space in skype. It should be filled with functionality for the users of skype. They will pay for that functionality in the end. Maybe they will also pay to keep the advertisers away.

Idea :

  • a skype ID : Global-Bullshit to list the global bullshitters.
  • a skype ID : Blacklisted-due-to-advertising to list the annoying marketing cockroaches.

Actually I don’t really care how many clicks, as long as their system works and keeps me online.

Skype Domain Names.

It’s crazy, but it’s true, I wrote a small article on skype domain-names – and here - some time ago. (actually not even an article, but just some thoughts on skype and it’s domain names) and see now in www.google.com : GoogleiconsearchOn top again when searching for skype domain names.

And I am not even selling anything in this capacity, and certainly not fooling around with skype-related domain-names (for the record !)

What can I say ? Ole. Ole. Ole.

Computers and Internet are as dangerous as Nuclear Energy and Atomic bombs.

Wisdom of the day (or rather statement) : computer and software-solutions will always do more than what you want them to do; therefore the are in combination with the internet the ultimate uncontrollable pest on the world.

I have always believed that computers, the internet, certain softwares are worse and certainly more dangerous inventions than the Atomic Bomb or Nuclear Energy if not controlled properly. You could even omit “if not controlled properly”. It cannot be controlled. It will just happen.

Yahoo! Publisher Network to Compete with Google AdSense

“In June 2003, Google made one of the wildest moves in the history of the Internet by innovating on the paid-advertising idea originally conceived by Overture. Already the most popular tool among search engine users, Google gave website publishers a revenue generating gift that kept on giving. Google's great PPC innovation was to permit AdWords advertising to appear on private websites, splitting the click-through fees 50/50 with the private webmasters whose sites delivered traffïc. By giving private webmasters the opportunïty to generate incidental revenues by acting as billboards for AdWords, Google saw profïts from AdWords skyrocket while Internet users became conditioned to accept the small and unobtrusive ads.

The paid-search advertising market is worth billions and is expected to be worth tens of billions in a few years time. Yahoo! is betting that market will support a growing network of small to medium sized online publishers who will in turn bring more revenues to Yahoo!. Google, which generates over 90% of its enormous revenues from the AdWords program, might face serious competition from Yahoo!, which currently receives about 60% of revenues from paid-advertising….

This week, Yahoo! released a beta-test version of a similar program known as the Yahoo! Publisher Network or YPN. Open to a limited number of testers, including StepForth News, the YPN is meant to compete directly with Google's AdWords program.”

Using blogging tools as content-management systems.

Column: I Blog, but I Do Not Blog
Think blogs are just for blowhards who like to toot their own horn at every possible moment and for every passing thought or idea? Not so, says contributing editor Bill Machrone. Blogging tools are actually excellent content-management systems that can support a wide range of Web site styles.

Bill's experience is right here.

Visibility / Popularity of Skype in all countries / worldwide : skype in Malaysia

I am going to make a list of all the major websites of skype in different countries. I will also be interesting to see who is squatting or grabbing their domain-names. Welcome on the public wall of shame ! Also I believe in think global, act local and keeping things simple. For example : you want skype in malaysia, you will type in www.google.com : “skype in malaysia” or “skype and malaysia”. you will then end up on my website, since I have been writing on it quite a lot and people are really reading it.

Googleiconsearch “Skype in Malaysia” – topsites in google search results :

Jan Geirnaert, Belgian in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur
Jan in Malaysia: VoIP / Skype
Jan in Malaysia
Has anyone used Skype? - Allo' Expat Malaysia
Free Classifieds - Internet IP phone for Skype MSN ...
Skype Journal

And I really was not looking for publicity ! I just started writing and I got clicked and clicked…

Also I noticed that www.skype.com.my got grabbed / squatted by some domain-name-thiefs. I wonder what skype is doing about this? How can you ever deploy a succesful international marketing with local branches if you domain-name got stolen? Hopefully the partners to do local marketing and branding will not be the domain-name squatters. They are the worst kind around.

So let’s have a look now to the other countries and what happens if you type in “skype in countryname”.

Starting again with a search-engine project. Some impressions.

I am busy again on promoting certain websites on the internet. I have justed decided to stop (not even started) using www.webceo.com due to the fact it looks dangerous with the built-in “update your account via visa” system. I just don’t want (and certainly not recommend) to link creditcards to companies that might just bill due to traffic on a website, supposedly caused by their search-engine submission. I am convinced also that clicks (unless massive amounts of it) will bring you succes. They will certainly bring spam and security problems…

So let’s see why “skype in malaysia” has brought me some attention… Because I write about in a blog. The good advice of an old web-friend has worked.

Summary : take certain advice for granted, don’t to people who try to sell you things, listen to straight-forward simple solutions, follow the logic of your own mind, in then end it might bring you more than whatever technology. In the end simple things are more straightforwarded. Look for the shortest way to the solution. Don’t bet on it that all these search-engine submission will bring you what you want.

If you visibility; create content. Link to other interesting content.

I will currently use a weblog http://news.belltone.com.my to promote the website www.belltone.com.my. This will be combined with Submit Wolf 6 from www.trellian.com.
