Top Rumour : will Google buy Skype ?
URL rumour throwing a new olympic sport.. This URL-rumour was thrown to me by Phil from SJ. I am sure some more news coming up on this one, but start here : " Currently in favour around London's webbist community is the rumour that Google has been in negotiations to buy Skype, the web telephony firm, from eBay. This makes sense on a number of levels, particularly because it fits with Google's ambitions for disrupting the mobile industry through its new open mobile phone development platform Android, and for eBay - which was recently forced to admit that it had paid too much for Skype. " source.
See my mockup of the future google (speculation)
Hopefully a better marriage after the breakup with Ebay. By "integrating Skype with google you would obviously reach a bigger audience than eBay buyers/shopper only. People searching for information are different than people buying/selling on an Auction website.
Note that Excite, Skype to launch joint website in Japan. Web portal operator Excite Japan and Skype Technologies have formed a business tie-up in Japan, reports the Nikkei.
I would love to see a proper mashup between google earth and skype. the
3D geotagged content / search driven click2call VoIP phone-directory. SIP and Skype coming
together on GoogleSearch Engine/Google Earth... Remember the Gatagata thing... And the Unype shared google earth browsing via Skype ?
It would be cool to see a real click 2 call search -
engine, basically, you would be googling something/somebody and then
push the phone-button next to the found result. I have seen Hans from
Skypeteer (among others) come up with such a type of search-engine,
about 1 year ago. Geo-tagged phone-listing integrated with search engines. A beafed up Skypefind thing... You'd be sitting before your computer one day, search some information or location on the google platform and find what you need to find. For example you would going places with your GPS, who tell you where the hotel is and then with your Nokia 800 tablet thing you would see a Skype or Google-talk icon next to the location and inquire about this and that before you drive here and there. Bill gates his dream "information at your fingertips". Where eBay failed ,google might succeed. Who knows. Click on the icon to get to your destination and talk (even to normal pstn-phones via Skype out).
Click 2 Call to drive the shares of Google up... while Skype lost it's soul in the proces ? It surely did "kick out" it 2 founders... A sad story on it's own.
GOOG
EBAY but not
SKYPE (always a pitty that Skype did not have it's OWN shares)
