VE40P Wisecomtech 4 channel Skype System.
This week I received the Wisecomtech 4 channel Skype box VE40P.. A sample for testing purposes. Thank you Cash L. It’s the best way to check out what is real value of hardware/software. Try it. Install it. Run it. Here is my first impression and quick test report.
At least some companies DO understand that a weblog with about 10.000 visitors (real people) per month is a good way to viral market your product. My way of testing is like plugging in the box, making it work, see how long it takes. Hands on Experience and real life. Just see if it works and compare to what the marketing leaflet promises.
And I still could not convince any representative of www.vosky.com to provide with a FREE sample for testing. Therefore no real comments on this box. Just look on the Internet at external reviews on the vosky exchange. They were one of the first on the first on the market with this type of box, so maybe they go some unsold stock somewhere ?
I also don’t understand their pricing policy. Simply too expensive. Sorry. Okay the Vosky Exchange is Skype certified but what does that really mean, if I am a business. Do get some preferred support by Skype then ? One year ago I was amazed with the concept of www.vosky.com, but one year later I am more amazed by the fact that the price of the vosky exchange (between 600 and 800 USD) still has not gone down. Did this type of box really «penetrate» the market ? I would like to see some sales figures. That would be the best argument.
The Wisecomtech 4 channel Skype box – VE40P – is definitely cheaper. So let’s see what it can do. The box is properly wrapped, nicely shipped via DHL to ensure speedy delivery (in one piece thank you).
This one is certainly smaller and lighter than the ZIPCOM box (also testing this one), but let’s not compare yet. Different products are just ment for different market segments. Different pricing too. The Skypbx from Zip ranges in prices between 1600 and 2000 USD. A bit more up-market. I will be making a different blog on that product
Let’s just see the VE40P Wisecomtech does and how the software/hardware performs.
First of all you must see for what market segment this box is intended. I think this fits in SME that want to use Skype but that don’t want to be sitting totally uncontrollable on the desktops of the users.
Secondly let’s see how it integrates with Skype and your existing PBX. Don’t try to over-use things and just use them in the way they are intended to be used. It’s probably the safest strategy when you are a company. Okay I am not talking to the tweakers here I know.
Is the installation difficult ?
No, I just plugged everything in, very simple. Clicking on he software-installer initatiated a 5 minute process, the PC needed to reboot and that was it. The system is ready to be used.
Does it come with a manual ?
Yes. In Chinese and good English.
How does it work ? What can I do.
Let’s find out. After installation you get a icon Anyex Centre on your desktop. Click that and follow the manual.
After installation you will start this server application and it will start for your 4 sessions of Skype. You choose the Skype names. First time I created new names. I am only testing this. But you could use existing Skype names.
One Skype account will already be running and will be the master company Skype account. The four others are subsidiary Skype accounts.
What names to give the 4 subsidiary Skype Accounts ?
Maybe link it to numbers. Departments ? Depends on your PBX logical setup. I just gave the number 101,102,103, 104,105 to the phones and gave the Skype–ID a similar name.
PBX.Wisecomtech.1
pbx.wiseomctech.2
pbx.wiseomctech.3
pbx.wiseomctech.4
Those ID’s could also be existing Skype ID’s.
Some remarks on the setup
– disable the video of those skype account that you will use on this system
Can the Skype-account be called direct by the outside Skype cloud ?
Yes that is possible if you allow privacy settings of the individual account of Skype to do so. (managed by the admin).
The reporting and manageability feature is great. The best I have seen so far.
It even comes with a webserver for remote adminstration. Now that is nice. In my case for example I have setup the number 101,102,103,104 link to the skype account pbx.wisecomtech1, pbx.wisecomtech2, pbx.wisecomtech3, pbx.wisecomtech4.
The powerfull combination of the Skype settings allow me much more than I can imagine. A Skype ID could be for example a remote office (anywhere in the world) and by simply mapping a number on the Anyex-interface, I can now have internal users calling remote offices by using a simple number and existing phone (connected to a pbx or not). That is GREAT. And no costs involved, since this goes totally over the existing internet-line and existing PBX, KEY-PHONES and normal pstn-phones. It works. I like the interface. And the English is better than my Chinese
.
Basically what I have done is linked a basic Panasonic PBX the main company it’s publically known Skype ID and from there on the incoming calls will be distributed over the PBX. What is also possible is that you directly plugin phones into the VE40P, which means you don’t need put the analog PBX into the game. But you can leave it there. Certainly to be recommend during a transition phase.
To finish (for now). It works. No real problems. I like the webinterface it provides. Very good for basic reporting on the call-traffic.Something that I had not seen yet in any other Skype application.I will be continuing testing this device. It looks promising.
