Has Skype been cracked? A shit-storm of links...

While Yahoo, Microsoft Bridge Chat Lines with their Instant Messaging Interoperability Beta, I wonder who really succeeded and how in cracking Skype In China; Skype cloned by the Chinese. And the proof still must float to the surface. We have just seen some screendumps. Maybe, maybe not, it is been said, people say so many things. Nobody has seen the effictive proof yet (or they don’t report about it, or they wait till they get the right marketing-strategy …). Maybe there we should call the VoIP union. Until we do, read this : Has Skype been cracked? I am saving the article below here for archiving purposes. The one below put things nicely in perspective. I have spiced it up with some links. Here is my summary of the problems. I am repeating it again, until it is properly addressed. The sentence «No comment» has been over-used. It’s time for answers now. Here is my take :
- the simultaneous dual and triple login feature without notification of is lethal, you don’t know when somebody is logged in to your account. why is that dual login left in place. Is it provide easy monitoring by x,y,z ?
- the public probable p2p cloud leads to problems. See my article on the Skype Prober. Remember Paltalk and ICQ had that problem too. basically external entities can try to download «efficiently» the data that are sitting in the public part of the Skype-database.
- the public passwordreset (https:// url that anybody can get too) combined with the fact that the login is know and the fact that many people just fill in the full name field their email-address (or else it is easily guessable) is problematic. Anybody can generate a password reset of somebody’s SKYPE ID if you know the login (skype-names are public) and if you know the email-address. The fact that then the skype-system will send an unattented clear-text email-message with the password is the achilles-heal of the whole system. Many people don’t change that given password. Sending confidential information in clear-text over the internet is idiotic.
- there is no notification of the IP-numbers that login to the web-control-panel. There should be.
«Skype has moved quickly to try and scotch rumours of an imminent clone — a development which would threaten the VoIP client's business model by introducing interoperability with its rivals. Skype's model of being a communications island could be under threat, if reports that its voice and instant messaging client has been successfully reverse engineered are true. According to Charlie Paglee, the chief executive of a Chinese-American Internet telephony (VoIP) company called Vozin Communications, engineers from a small Chinese startup have managed to crack Skype's protocol. Writing on his VoIPWiki blog on Thursday, Paglee claimed he had been made aware of the development when a member of the team successfully called him on his Skype account from another VoIP client. The as-yet-unidentified company is reportedly working towards a client that is "100 percent" compatible with Skype. If these reports are correct, they have so far succeeded only in peer-to-peer voice calls, but are now concentrating on emulating Skype's instant messaging (IM) and presence (the ability to see which of your contacts are online) capabilities.» source : Has Skype been cracked?
